Looking ahead: Over $2 million in change orders for new police headquarters
City paying over $400,000/year to outsourced consultants on new police headquarters; 2022 audit completion delayed again
Hyattsville staff posted the July 15, 2024 city council meeting agenda Friday afternoon. It includes three change orders related to the new police headquarters at 3505 Hamilton Street totaling more than $2 million in additional costs between Whiting-Turner, Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT), and Mission Critical Services. The city council originally approved the new police headquarters project with a “total development cost estimate” of $10.3 million in 2017, and took out $10.3 million in debt specifically for the new police headquarters. Also on the agenda is almost half a million in contract expenditures, further approval of a $17.5 million bond issuance for the new police headquarters project, and discussion of the West Hyattsville-Queens Chapel Sector Map Amendment.
