Every year, the city of Hyattsville generates most of its general revenue from property taxes. A rising tax base — either from new development or appreciation on existing development — leads to more city revenue. A value-per-acre analysis of Hyattsville’s land using state tax data shows that much of Hyattsville’s most valuable real estate is townhouses, which regularly sell for as much as single-family houses while having smaller land footprints.
